popular publishing

I developed a 20 page ( 20 8×11 double spaced 12 pt times new roman font pages with standard margins) work of fiction as part of a class I was taking at my college and the professor suggested that I submit it to the creative writing contest that she was sponsoring. I submitted the work to the contest and ended up winning first place. This win has given me the confidence to believe that if I really wanted to I could make the work longer by adding to it in certain places, and then possibly send (or email) it to a publisher who might publish it. Of course I still do NOT have confidence that the publisher will even end up having a chance to notice my work in lieu of the millons of other things they probably have to do,but I figure anything is worth a try. So can anyone tell me the names of some popular fiction publishing companies, and/or if they have a website and give me the website and/or how to contact the company so I could possibly try to submit the work?
Also, be honest with me. Do I really even stand a chance at having the work published at all, or am I just wasting my time? Because ak anyone who has read it and they will tell you that the work is an absolutely fantastic work that they would love to read again. I have gotten this kind of review from colleagues and professors I have never even met. If a publisher were to just read the manuscript I am positive that their reception would be the same or similar. But I guess what I am asking is if I submit a manuscript to a company are the publishers even going to read it, or will it just be automatically assumed as something mundane and just be overlooked?

Hi, I’m thinking of getting an older model Palm Pilot (maybe the m100 or m500 series) and use it as a cheap e-book reader for .txt format ebooks. I looked into the actual ebook readers but they are too expensive…so I thought of getting an old model PDA instead. so I just want to know if the old model Palms can read ordinary .txt files.

Over the years I’ve acquired a long wish list of classics I’d like to buy. The most popular collection seems to be Penguin, but I’m sort of turned off to them now after reading customer reviews of people online who fault the paper quality. Some have said the books don’t last. Modern Library Classics looks pretty good, I have their Uncle Tom’s Cabin and it still seems healthy. I’d like some feedback.
Oh yeah, Puffin is pretty good too. I got a few of those. Only it seems it’s targetted at kids.
